In 2010 over 400 high-quality nominations were received for the ASC Media Awards which is nearly double the amount received in 2009.

The standard of nominations received was excellent with nominations from sport and sport affairs journalists, broadcasters and photographers. The Awards also attracted nominations from non-sports media, such as news, current affairs and business media – which is recognition of the Awards’ growing profile in the industry.

Now in its ninth year, the ASC Media Awards is Australia’s premier sports media celebration and the only awards dedicated to recognising sports journalism, broadcasting and photography. They focus on analytical and insightful reporting and the presentation of sport and sporting issues, with the ultimate aim of fostering improved coverage of key issues within sport.

Winners from the 2009 ASC Media Awards included: Mike Hurst, The Daily Telegraph, Inside Sport, Roger Carter, Australian Story, ABC Television, and Quinn Rooney and, Getty Images. The coveted Lifetime Achievement Award for Contribution to Sports Journalism was won by Les Murray from SBS.

As well as recognising excellence, the ASC Media Awards provide representatives from the media with the opportunity to network among peers and senior representatives of the sports industry.
