AIS claims back to back titles as ACT Swim School of the Year

Swim and Fitness at the AIS is the 2010 ACT AUSTSWIM Swim School of the Year

The Swim and Fitness at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) Swim School program was announced as the winner of the 2010 ACT AUSTSWIM Swim School of the Year for the second year running at the ACT 2010 Water Safety Awards held at the Legislative Assembly in Canberra.

The Swim School program will now be in the running for the national 2011 AUSTSWIM Swimming and Water Safety School of the Year at the National AUSTSWIM Awards to be held in July 2011. The swim school won the national AUSTSWIM Swimming and Water Safety School of the Year award in 2010.

Swim and Fitness at the AIS was recognised for its initiatives, contribution towards making the community aware of water safety and its wide scope of providing water and safety programs for people of all ages, abilities and community groups.

Assistant Director (AIS Aquatic Centre) Ali Parvizi says the award was recognition of the hard work and expertise of all staff.

‘We have created an environment at Swim and Fitness at the AIS that has fostered great community involvement and satisfaction,’ Parvizi said.

Individual Swim and Fitness at the AIS staff were also recipients of AUSTSWIM awards, including:
• Swim School Manager Lyn McDermott who was awarded for her Outstanding Contribution to AUSTSWIM in 2010
• Swim school instructor Jade Prasertrungreung who was awarded AUSTSWIM Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety  Instructor of the Year
• Christrine Verco who was awarded AUSTSWIM Teacher of Infants and Pre-school Instructor of the Year.

The AUSTSWIM Award is the premier award presented to individuals and recognised swim schools in Australia that achieve the highest standards of aquatic education excellence.
