Development grants

On 26 November 2005 the Australian Prime Minister announced the $10 million Australian Sports Outreach Program (ASOP) aimed predominantly at Commonwealth Countries. The ASOP runs from July 2006 to June 2011 and assists predominantly Commonwealth countries in the Pacific, southern Africa, Asia and the Caribbean.

Through the Sport Development Grants component of the ASOP, eligible countries will receive support for sport development initiatives, through a grants based process.  This involves submission of proposals for funding of projects. The Australian Sports Commission will work closely with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) and Australian diplomatic missions in those countries or regions involved (see list below)to coordinate promotion of the grant program to appropriate organisations.

Administration

The Sport Development Grants Program is managed by the ASC under the guidance of a project submission evaluation committee comprising representatives from the ASC and DFAT.
