Secondary Education Award
Jessica Fox – Canoe Slalom
In an impressive display of commitment and hard work, Jessica has just completed her HSC after a long and successful international competition season. With two ICF World Cup-winning performances in the C1 event, she is now ranked world number one in the event, and also qualified the women’s K1 boat for Australia at the 2012 London Olympics. Between podium appearances, Jessica sat the HSC trail exams, scoring the highest result in her school, and won a variety of academic prizes. Amazingly, Jessica also found time for performances in a variety of Eisteddfods and in the 2011 Pulse concert at the Sydney Opera House.
Tertiary Educational Award
Katya Crema – Ski Cross
In her third year of a Bachelor of Environments degree, Katya has maintained an honours average despite an intensive international competition and training schedule that sees the ski cross athlete spending nearly half the year on the slopes. When on home ground, Katya works part time as a coach, and she commits any remaining time as ambassador to two charities – the ‘I Ski For Tommy’ foundation, set up in honour of alpine skier Thomas Mathias, and the ‘Chicks with Stix’ program for young female skiers, for which she also acts as a coach.
