Lake Ginninderra College
Lake Ginninderra College (Years 11 and 12) is a government senior secondary college established in 1987. Qualifications gained at the end of Year 12 are recognised by employers and tertiary institutions throughout Australia.
Here are some general points about Lake Ginninderra College.
- Unit assessment plans and course outlines are given to each student at the start of each unit.
- An AIS Liaison officer has been appointed to assist athletes study packages to ensure athletes meet ACT requirements
- Students who enrol in a unit enter a contract to attend all lessons and meet all assessment requirements as stated in the course outline
- Failure to meet the assessment requirements will result in individual counselling. Where requirements are not met, teachers may not give an assessment in that unit and the student will risk failing.
- AIS students are encouraged to stay at school during non-timetabled lessons. As well as attending all scheduled classes, students are expected to attend all support group sessions (Monday between 12.00 – 12.15pm) and college meetings. Support groups provide valuable information on such things as college happenings, careers events and applications to tertiary institutions.
- When a student will be absent from a class or school for any length of time they are responsible for obtaining any work they will miss.
- For Canberra residential athletes, ACE advisers inform the school of absences based on advice received from the Houseparent or Coach. ACE advisers monitor academic progress, receive parent-teacher reports and liaise regularly with teachers at the school.
- Parents of non-residential athletes are responsible for liaising with the school on the educational progress of their child, and also for advising the school of all absences that are not related to sporting commitments.
- A semester report is issued at the end of semester for each unit completed. A progress report may be requested at any time.
- Athletes who experience difficulty or are unsure of units or timetables, should seek advice from an AIS ACE adviser and from the AIS Liaison Officer at the college.
- There is no official school uniform. However, neat and tidy dress is required. This includes appropriate footwear, covered shoes are mandatory in science labs and practical classes.
