Investment announcement 2013-14

0:00:03.590,0:00:07.450
The approach that we’ve taken this year
we believe is new for sport in Australia.

0:00:07.450,0:00:11.340
We’ve asked some questions that sports haven’t
been asked previously and we’ve asked sports

0:00:11.340,0:00:15.010
to present evidence and information in a way
that we haven’t previously required from

0:00:15.010,0:00:17.760
them.
We now think that the information we have

0:00:17.760,0:00:21.940
available and the way in which sports have
presented that information back to us is as

0:00:21.940,0:00:27.220
complete as we’ve ever had so we’re confident
that against that evidence base we’re able

0:00:27.220,0:00:29.789
to make the best possible decisions around
our investment.

0:00:29.789,0:00:34.870
The approach we’ve taken starting from the
Winning Edge targets which we’ve been very

0:00:34.870,0:00:39.180
clear about and we’ve looked at ensuring
that we understand the performance opportunity

0:00:39.180,0:00:40.730
in and across every sport.

0:00:40.730,0:00:45.809
We have established a set of investment principles
that have provided us with a framework for

0:00:45.809,0:00:49.649
making a range of decisions but what is at
the heart of the investment is the linkage

0:00:49.649,0:00:55.170
of investment to performance outcome through
the lens of an evidence base around who are

0:00:55.170,0:00:59.510
the athletes what is the system that is driving
your program, what is the evidence around

0:00:59.510,0:01:04.469
your current performance success as well as
the future performance potential so we consider

0:01:04.469,0:01:09.170
all of that in the context of how we would
then allocate those resources. That has been

0:01:09.170,0:01:12.259
a really significant part of our decision
making process.

0:01:12.259,0:01:16.759
Today is about the announcement of the investment
recommendations and outcomes that our board

0:01:16.759,0:01:22.099
have agreed and moving forward our role would
then be to craft some discreet KPIs with sports

0:01:22.099,0:01:27.270
alongside of their high performance plans
and over the next period of time is about

0:01:27.270,0:01:33.099
engaging with sports to support them in achievement
of those benchmark outcomes for sport and

0:01:33.099,0:01:37.459
our role will be very much about supporting
every sport in a range of different ways to

0:01:37.459,0:01:41.840
ensure that they increase the likelihood of
achieving their performance targets.

0:01:41.840,0:01:46.719
The feedback that we’ve had from sport and
internally is that they’ve taken a really

0:01:46.719,0:01:52.069
mature approach to the questions that we’ve
asked the sports in terms of presentation

0:01:52.069,0:01:53.009
of their performance case.

0:01:53.009,0:01:57.139
They’ve done that in a really short period
of time, we gave them a very tight timeframe

0:01:57.139,0:02:01.179
and the information and the quality of the
data that we’ve received has been overwhelming

0:02:01.179,0:02:02.469
and high quality.

0:02:02.469,0:02:06.529
I’m very confident in the approach we’ve
taken and the extent to which it will increase

0:02:06.529,0:02:08.770
the likelihood of us achieving those winning
edge targets.

0:02:08.770,0:02:11.959
I’m confident about the allocation targets
and allocation of resources and we believe

0:02:11.959,0:02:16.489
that the quantums of support are consistent
with what sports are going to require in order

0:02:16.489,0:02:18.120
to increase their chance of success.
