AIS archers looking to perform well at World Cup
Australian Sports Commission
The final Archery World Cup event to decide competitors at the World Cup Final is currently being conducted in France.
The competition is hosting 545 competitors in total with nations not permitted to send more than 4 archers of each gender in each of the bow disciplines.
It is also the final opportunity for countries that have not yet secured any positions in the Olympic competition to win spots.
The qualifying (or ranking) rounds have been completed. Scores in the ranking round are from a possible 720 with the ranking being divided into two halves of 36 arrows (max 10 points per arrow, 2 x 36 = 72, ergo maximum of 720). As with the Olympics, this is only shot at one distance, 70m.
Both Lexie Feeney (AIS/NSWIS) and Jane Waller (AIS) returned to competition after injury and rehab. Feeney will be pleased with her ranking 23rd (627), while Jane will have some work ahead of her having been ranked 49th (621).
The recurve men had an outstanding qualifying and at one stage were leading the team rankings (based on aggregated score).
During the first half of the ranking round all of the Australian men were ranked in the top 10 individually. Sky Kim (AIS) finished 4th with 665. Matt Gray (AIS) also performed well taking his positive attitude into the competition and qualifying 14th and Michael Naray (AIS/NSWIS) finished in the top half of the draw at 21st (653).
The team ended up in 2nd place which is a great place from which to contest the team event.
