Eight current or former AIS boxers have qualified for the Beijing Olympics following Australia’s fantastic results at the Oceania Championships in Samoa.

The Oceania Champuionships double as the Olympic Qualification Tournament.

The Gold Medal winners all gained qualification for the Olympic Games.

48kg – Kyle Freiberg (Qld) lost to Jack Willie (PNG) 15:9

51kg – Steve Sutherland (AIS – Vic) defeated Francis Oaike (PNG) 16:8

54kg – Luke Boyd (AIS – NSW) defeated Eugene Keto (PNG) Referee Stopped Contest Outscored Round 3

57kg – Luke Jackson (AIS – Tas) lost to Paul Fleming (Qld) 8:4

60kg – Anthony Little (former AIS – WA) defeated Brendon Wilson (Qld) 23:8

64kg – Todd Kidd (former AIS – Qld) defeated Vaiee Sasi Sasulu (Samoa) 13:6

69kg – Gerard O’Mahony (former AIS – ACT) defeated Iva Afakasi Faumui (Samoa) 17:8

75kg – Jarrod Fletcher (AIS – Qld) defeated Nathan McEwan (NZL) 17:3

81kg – no Australian competing

91kg – Brad Pitt (AIS – Vic) defeated Adam Forsyth (former AIS – WA) 15:11

91+kg – Daniel Beahan (AIS – Qld) defeated Uaine Fa (Tonga) 14:4


Australia finished the Oceania Championships with 9 Gold Medals, 4 Silver and 5 Bronze Medals.
