The team, led by Moises Henriques, recorded an exciting six-wicket win in the opening Twenty20 match against New Zealand. Requiring three to win from the final delivery, David Warner hit a boundary, giving the home team some much needed early tournament confidence.

Batting first, the visitors lined up with talented youngster Jesse Ryder opening the innings; however he was soon back in the pavilion, falling to fast bowler Grant Sullivan for 14.

Corey Anderson was the stand out for New Zealand, compiling a solid 53 in his side’s total of 8–139 from the 20 overs. Sullivan was the pick of the bowlers for the AIS snaring 3–25, with Henriques chipping in with 2–35.

In a captain’s performance, Henriques then backed up his efforts with the ball to top score with 57 from only 35 deliveries, including a couple of huge sixes. He received excellent support from team-mate Peter Forrest, who chipped in with 44.

In the earlier Twenty20 encounter, India recorded a comfortable win over South Africa by 12 runs in a low-scoring affair.

Batting first, India compiled 7–87, with skipper Badrinth Subramani top scoring with 37 and Ravindrasinh Aniruddhsinh Jadeja making 20.

Wayne Parnell finished with the best figures for South Africa, claiming a tidy 3–15 from his four overs.

In reply South Africa struggled, limping to 8–75 from their 20 overs as they lost wickets steadily throughout the innings and with no batsman passing 20.

Amit Mishra was the leading bowler for India, grabbing a very economical 3–11 from his four overs.
