Kim finishes highest of the Aussie archers at World Cup event

05 Jun 2008

Results from the 3rd, 2008 Archery World Cup event held in Antalya, Turkey involving AIS/Australian athletes.

The Australian’s qualified well with Sky Kim (AIS) the top of the men ranking 6th.

Matt Gray (AIS) finished 19th and Michael Naray 54th (AIS/NSWIS) in the ranking round.

Sky continued his hot form this year, again making it through to the quarter finals where he narrowly lost to eventual gold medallist Im Dong (KOR) and was ranked 6th overall.

Despite Michael’s 54th ranking he was able to fight through his first round against 11th ranked Malaysian Wan Ab Aziz and continued on to the round of 16 when he met Sky.

Far from being daunted Michael shot well and was only beaten by Sky in a tie break to finish in 16th place.

Matt wasn’t as fortunate and went out in the first round by Przeporia (POL).

The men’s team, silver medallists in the Dominican Republic two months ago, were disappointed to be knocked out by the well credentialed Russian Federation but were high scoring first round losers and still managed a creditable 6th place.

Compound archer Robert Timms (QLD) was the best performed of the Australians competing in that discipline matching Sky’s efforts by making it to the quarter finals.

Timms ended up ranked 7th – another solid performance.
