What’s the difference between a dietitian and nutritionist?

Many different courses provide qualifications in nutrition. In Australia, there is no government regulation over the use of terms such as ‘dietitian’ or ‘nutritionist’. However, professional bodies such as the Dietitians Association of Australia and Nutrition Australia provide criteria for professional membership. Members of Nutrition Australia typically have tertiary qualifications in areas such as nutrition, food science and public health. Dietitians have tertiary qualifications in similar areas as well as dietetics. Dietitians have completed substantial professional practice in clinical nutrition, medical nutrition therapy and food service management. Dietitians are qualified to provide medical nutrition therapy or clinical nutrition consultations in individual and group settings.

Sports Dietitians at the AIS are all Accredited Practicing Dietitians and Accredited Sports Dietitians.
