Four Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) athletes Jared Tallent, Chris Erickson, Nathan Deakes and Luke Adams have been named in the national team in preparing to compete at the 24th IAAF World Race Walking Cup in Chihuahua, Mexico on 15 to 16 May 2010.

The AIS athletes will be joined by Tom Barnes in the Australian team.

Olympic silver medallist Jared Tallant recorded a personal best time of three hours 38 minutes and 56 seconds, in winning the Australian Race Walking Championship at Faulkner Park in Melbourne on 22 November.

Tallent was thrilled with claiming the national title and has his sights set on winning a medal at the IAAF World Race Walking Cup.

’I’m looking for a medal at the next year’s IAAF Road Walk Championships in Mexico and today’s result is the ideal start to what will be a tough training schedule between now and then,’ Tallant said.

Victorian Tom Barnes finished second in the Australian championship race in four hours 12 minutes 5 seconds just short of his personal best time.
