Australian Football - Scholarships

The Academy scholarship holders are chosen following the NAB AFL Under-16 Championship. To qualify for selection, athletes must have played in the NAB AFLU16 or U18 Championships, or be nominated by their State Talent Manager. Players must also be ineligble for that years NAB AFL Draft.

Scholarship holders receive a number of benefits including:

  • Access to suitable training facilities provided by the Institute or through other approved agencies
  • High performance coaching under the direction of the High Performance Coach
  • Fitness and strength testing/evaluation and training programs under the direction and supervision of qualified personnel
  • Payment of an allowance during the scholarship period to offset costs incurred in meeting training requirements
  • Sports medicine and sports science services provided by the Institute’s practitioners or agents approved by the AIS/AFL Academy
  • Performance reporting and supervision
  • Allowances approved by the High Performance Coach to assist with the costs of the elite athlete program including participation in required training camps
  • Assistance through the Institute’s ACE program with career and personal development, education and employment
  • Medical treatment by the Institute’s practitioners and/or by other practitioners authorised by the AIS/AFL Academy and/or a “gap” rebate associated with payment for scheduled medial services which private health insurance does not cover.
