Four new talented athletes have been selected for the 2010–11 Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) men’s basketball program, which starts on 17 January.

The new scholarship holders joining the 2010–11 basketball program are:

  • Jackson Aldridge — New South Wales
  • Igor Hadziomerovic — Victoria
  • Mitchell McCarron — Queensland
  • Lewis Thomas — Western Australia

The AIS men’s basketball program was established in 1981 and is internationally regarded as one of the best athlete development programs. It works in partnership with Basketball Australia to support the training and development of talented junior athletes.

One of the world’s best women basketball players, Lauren Jackson, and Australia’s first number one US NBA draft pick, Andrew Bogut, were both members of the AIS Basketball program.

‘The AIS Basketball program aims to equip our juniors with the mental, physical and tactical skills needed to perform at league, national and international levels,’ said AIS Director Professor Fricker.

‘We are extremely proud of our record and tradition of producing talented basketball players who have gone on to excel at the elite level of the game.’
