Basketball AIS record 5th win of USA Tour

12 Nov 2012

As expected the game was a different kind of challenge for the group backing up from 2 back-to-back games. Although relatively experienced, with a majority of juniors and seniors on their roster, the University of Dallas was outmatched with size, talent and athleticism by the AIS. However, the game provided the AIS with a great opportunity to work on establishing an early defensive presence and to focus on offensive execution against both man and zone defences prior to heading back to California for the remaining 4 games of the tour.

The AIS started well at both ends of the floor getting out to a 12-0 with an aggressive start defensively and some early transition baskets. Out of a timeout, the University of Dallas settled offensively and adjusted defensively, alternating between man and zone defences. Senior point guard, Kylie Yoshimura, got the University of Dallas going with her ability to shoot the 3 point shot and create off the dribble for her teammates. Yoshimura ended the half with 14 points, including 4/7 3FG, and was the major point of discussion during the half time break for the AIS. Despite the issues created by Yoshimura the AIS was able to go into the locker room at the half time break with a sizeable 53-29 lead.

Ally Wilson was given the Yoshimura assignment early in the second half after her first half performance on 3-point specialist, Emily Madden. Ally was able to neutralize Yoshimura’s impact and the AIS lead grew. All athletes had the opportunity to play quality minutes and make solid contributions which will aid the AIS’s performances in the final four games.

The AIS had several standout performances of the night with all athletes contributing to the outcome. Stephanie Collins had another strong performance with 20 points from 9/11 shot attempts. Alicia Froling, Alanna Smith, Louise Brown did a great job on the boards with their relentless efforts. Tiana had a solid statistical line across multiple categories in her limited minutes. Ally Wilson gets a special mention for her 6 points, 6 rebounds, in addition to excellent defensive performance efforts on Madden and Yoshimura.

In summary, the AIS got off to a strong start at both ends of the floor. The AIS dominated the boards 57-25 including 20 offensive boards, won the possession game 57-11, and shot 57%FG which decided the result of the game in the early stages of the second half.

Today the AIS will travel back to California to prepare for 4 back-to-back games beginning with last year’s NAIA National Champion, Azusa Pacific University, on Saturday at 1pm.
