Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) Applied Technical Advancement Coach Patrick Hunt was honoured at a special Basketball Australia function on Monday 20 April 2009 recognising his commitment and contribution to national basketball development.

Basketball luminaries from around the country converged on South Australia to pay tribute to Hunt and his work for junior basketball.

Basketball Australia marked the occasion by presenting Hunt with a document naming the hundreds of athletes and coaches he had an involvement with in various AIS and national programs — a veritable ‘who’s who’ of Australian basketball.

Hunt, who left his position as Head Coach of Basketball Australia’s National Intensive Training Centre Program to join the AIS in January 2009, was humbled by the occasion.

‘Australia contributes so much to the world of basketball and it has been a privilege to be involved with this great sport for so long,’ Hunt said.

‘I am deeply honoured by being recognised tonight and must thank all those who I have worked with over the years — both players and coaches — in helping me to enjoy my time coaching so much.’

During the function Basketball Australia also announced that, from 2009, the Basketball Australia junior Coach of the Year awards would be named after Patrick Hunt, in recognition of his outstanding commitment and contribution to national basketball development.

The evening was a walk down memory lane for the guests, as Hunt and others shared stories with former players and coaching colleagues of past tours, tournaments and life experiences in the world of international basketball.
