AIS suffer second loss of season

04 May 2009

Southern Districts playing a high intensity and physical brand of basketball have defeated the AIS 98-95.

The AIS had Districts rattled early on as they displayed sharp passing and strong physical presence inside the paint.

Both teams traded baskets with AIS going to the first break with a narrow 6 point lead, 26-20.

The second quarter saw AIS continue to execute their offense well and extend their lead out to 9 points only to be reined in by Districts through AIS’s lapse of concentration. With three minutes to go in the quarter the scores were locked at 42 all, with neither team able to break away and gain the upper hand. At half time Districts held a slender one point advantage, 49-48.

Districts increased the physical battle in the second half, and AIS found themselves giving away costly fouls and the bonus shots from the five minute mark on to Districts. Despite the advantage of having AIS in foul trouble, Districts were unable to gain a lead as the young guns second efforts at both ends of the court kept them in the game and the scores locked at 70 all at the final break.

Districts had established their biggest lead of the game to be out by 8 points when AIS Coach Marty Clarke had seen enough and called a time out. Coming out of the time out AIS responded well and went on an 8 point run before Districts responded through Tyson Demos and Drew Williams with back to back baskets.

With three minutes left on the clock and a five point deficit the AIS had their work cut out for them.

The AIS continued to battle and were valiant in defeat but the offensive execution of Districts game left the AIS with their second loss of the season.

Brisbane Districts: 98 Chris Goulding (21pts, 5rbs), Greg Vanderjagt (18pts, 11rbs), Ash Cannan (15pts, 5rb), Tyson Demos, Drew Williamson, Thalo Green (13pts each) defeated AIS: 95 Brock Motum (23pts,9rbs)Jason Cadee (14pts), Hugh Greenwood, Jorden Page, Mitchell Young (10pts each).
