Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) athletes Sam Boehm and Chris McHugh had a sensational win in the second event of the Asian Beach Volleyball Tour on 11 April 2009.

It was a tough match for Boehm and McHugh, but their intense pre-season training paid off as they defeated Indonesia’s Andy Ardiyansah and Koko Darkuncoro in two sets to one (19 to 21, 21 to 16 and 15 to 13).

Boehm and McHugh are now in competition at the Brasilia men’s open event of the Swatch FIVB World tour.

AIS women’s volleyball players Becchara Palmer and Heike Jensen have also had international success, claiming the bronze medal in the final of the Samila-Federbrau Asian Beach Volleyball Tour at Samila Beach, Thailand on 16 April.

The AIS women’s team are currently in training Adelaide in preparation for the China Shanghai Jinshan Open which runs from 28 April to 2 May.
