04 May 2010
Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) scholarship holder Ian Borrows has claimed his second gold medal at the Asian Slalom Championships in China.
Borrows blazed down the course on his final run knocking five seconds off his time to produce a clean run, his best run of the tour.
He edged out the Chinese Olympian Teng by 0.1 of a second in a sensational finish, which earned him valuable world ranking points.
AIS and Australian Coach Mike Druce was full of praise for Borrows fine efforts.
‘This was a great performance from Ian and a testament to the hard work he has put in,’ Druce said.
‘Our athletes performed well on a fantastic course against a strong contingent of Chinese and Japanese athletes.’
‘It has been a rewarding experience and we will definitely look to return to Asia for more racing opportunities in the future.’
Jaxon Merritt (AIS) posted an improved performance finishing 7th in the men’s K1 final ahead of fellow AIS athlete Phil Gibbins (VIC) who finished in 10th place.
