Canoeing - Slalom Scholarships
Selection to the National Centre of Excellence (NCE) squad is based on results at the national team selection trials, of which there are four races over two weekends. The 2007 selection events will be held at Brady’s in Tasmania and Penrith Whitewater Stadium, NSW.
The Slalom Canoe/Kayak NCE Program maximises the collective expertise and resources of the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS), Australian Canoeing (AC) and the New South Wales Institute of Sport (NSWIS) in a unique partnership to achieve medal winning performances and sustainable international success.
As part of the program, AIS athletes are provided with coaching, access to facilities, equipment, sports medicine and sports science, travel, personal and career development, accommodation at camps and some education expenses. All athletes are expected to study or work as well as train and compete in their sport.
Up to 20 athletes will be offered scholarships with the Slalom Canoe/Kayak NCE. In 2007 there will be two scholarship periods, May – October 2007 and November 2007 – April 2008.
