Canoeing - Slalom Training

A typical week for an AIS Slalom Canoe scholarship holder might be:

  • Monday morning - whitewater training, timed full-length runs
  • Monday afternoon - gym training
  • Tuesday morning - flatwater, interval training
  • Tuesday afternoon - technical drills
  • Wednesday morning - whitewater training technique, repeats on sections
  • Wednesday afternoon - flatwater stroke drills
  • Thursday morning - whitewater training technique, split-runs/pacing work
  • Thursday afternoon - gym training
  • Friday morning - whitewater interval training (full-length runs combined with flatwater sprints)
  • Friday afternoon - cross-training
  • Saturday morning - whitewater technique training, individual skill work
  • Saturday afternoon - flatwater aerobic paddle
  • Sunday - rest day.

AIS athletes not based at the Penrith Whitewater Stadium include more flatwater training and visit Penrith and other venues for camps and intensive technical training blocs on whitewater.

Training programs for juniors or beginners would be very different to this program. Ask your coach for a program suitable for your level.
