Cricket Men's Cricket history: 1997-2000

2000

  • 13 CBCA athletes were awarded full time scholarships with a further 23 visiting the CBCA for specialist skills camps (bowling, wicket keeping and batting).
  • These full time scholarship holders made up the majority of the squad who completed a very successful tour to Bangladesh.
  • Representation in the National team was again high with 8/13 squad members selected for the Carlton series previously holding and AIS scholarship.

1999

  • 12 full time scholarship were awarded along with 24 part time scholarships
  • There were three separate overseas tours
  • Prior to the commencement of the scholarship year in April a number of ’99 scholarship holders, along with 3 previous scholarship holders, toured Zimbabwe. The CBCA again completed a very successful tour
  • The second tour was a joint CBCA/ U/19 tour to England. 4 full time scholars were included in the touring party, with a further 5 being awarded full time scholarships in 2000. This was again a very successful tour with a 2-1 win/loss record in the International One day series and drew the International Test series with 1 win, 1 loss and 1 draw
  • The final overseas tour was to New Zealand. The team consisted of a majority of full time scholarship holders along with two fast bowlers from the MRF Pace Foundation from India. The CBCA completed victories against both the NZ Academy and also Canterbury
  • The CBCA participated in the newly formed ACB Cup, which saw the team play both 1 and 3 day matches against each State and Territory 2nd XI team
  • 8 members of the Australian team that toured the West Indies were past scholarship holders
  • Of the victorious Australian World Cup team 4 members were former scholarship holders

1992/93

  • Justin Langer and Brendan Julian were included in the Australian team. Michael Slater was called up for his Australian debut, along with Brendan Julian and Damien Martyn - and they competed in the successful 1993 Ashes tour of England.
  • AIS trained cricketers to represent Australia in 1992/93 included Shane Warne, Damien Martyn, Brendan Julian and Michael Slater.

1991/92

  • Shane Warne became the first AIS athlete to play Test Cricket, and Damien Martyn also made his National debut. The Academy team toured South Africa and were the first Australian team to visit officially for 22 years. The Australian squad held it's annual camp at the Academy in October 1991.

1990/91

  • Rod Marsh and Richard Done took over the coaching positions at the Adelaide Unit. Fifteen full-time scholarships were awarded and eighteen associate or part-time scholarships were also awarded. Six members were selected in the Australian Under 19 side to tour the West Indies, and the squad also played against a touring side from England as well as making a successful tour to Sri Lanka.

1989/90

  • Seventeen full-time scholarships and one associate scholarship were awarded this year. An Australian Cricket Board junior team toured the West Indies and was comprised entirely of AIS players. Five players went on to play in Sheffield Shield teams.

1988/89

  • Sixteen full-time scholarships and two part-time scholarships were granted and there were representatives from all States and Territories in Australia. A short tour to Darwin and Queensland in July & August served as a pre-season warm-up for the squad. Many of the players in the Australian Under 19 side that defeated New Zealand had been AIS scholarship holders and eight players from this Under 19 team moved on to first class cricket.

1987/88

  • Fifteen full-time, one part-time and one associate scholarships were awarded. Seven players on full-time scholarships represented their States at the senior level for the first time
