Shayne Bannan (Head Coach)

The AIS Cycling Head Coach and National Performance Director, Shayne Bannan, has a long history in coaching since retiring as a rider himself. Shayne is the most senior member of the current National coaching staff following various stints with the AIS and Australian Road and Track programs since 1986.

Shayne now directs all elite coaches and programs in Australian cycling.

Most notably in recent times, Shayne has been responsible for reshaping Australian elite cycling programs to become a major international player in the world of Cycling across all disciplines, including the establishment of the continental AIS road team in 2006.

Ian McKenzie (Senior Coach)

The AIS Track Endurance Coach Ian McKenzie came into the AIS as a full time coach in 2007. Ian operated as the South Australian Sports Institute coach for 14 years, with a dual role in the National program since 2000.

Ian has developed some of the best cycling talent the country has seen. Ian has been instrumental in the international success of Australian track endurance teams, including gold medals in Teams Pursuit at the 2004 Olympics Games and 2007 World Championships

Brian Stephens (Coach)

The AIS Men's U23 Road Coach Brian Stephens has a long history with the AIS. He was Assistant AIS/Australian Men's Road U23 Coach from 1994-99, and in 1992 was an AIS Scholarship Coach. Brian now spends a majority of his time preparing riders overseas at the AIS European Training Centre.

Brian has been a significant supplier of riders into the professional ranks with World Champions and Grand Tour stage winners being among them. Brian now heads up the "Team AIS" road team -  an extension of the U23 and Track Endurance programs

Gary West (Senior Coach)

AIS Track Sprint Coach Gary West boasts a diverse coaching career which includes work with the Japanese Cycling Federation, United States Cycling Federation and the position of Head Coach of cycling at the South Australian Sports Institute.

As one of the best track coaches in the world, Gary brings decades of experience to his work with AIS athletes and will be a pivotal figure in restablising Australia as one of the powerhouse cycling nations in the world.
