Diving Coaches
Hui Tong
Since taking on this role, Hui has played a lead part in helping to guide and develop Australia’s best diving talent at the Institute’s world class training centre based in Brisbane.
Both coaches of the AIS Diving program have helped support the training and preparation of Australian divers for elite competition at the world championships and Olympics.
Australia is now ranked in the world’s top three diving nations.
Hui Tong, is a former athlete on the Chinese national team who won gold in the platform event at the 1985 and 1987 FINA Diving World Cups and finished fourth in the platform event at the Los Angeles 1984 Olympic Games.
He later moved into coaching the national team and assistant Coach of the National Training Centre (Junior Development) in Beijing, China, from 1987 to 1990.
He moved to Canada in 1990, taking on the role as Assistant Coach and then Head Coach with Dive Calgary Sports Society from 1990 to 2000.
Chen Xiangning
Previously he was head coach of the Queensland Academy of Sport Diving program from 2005 to 2007.
He went on to become coach of the Diving Australia Target 2006 program from 2004 to 2005.
Before moving to Australia in 2004, he was coach of the Chinese Taipei Diving Team and Guang Dong Diving Team.
In his previous roles, he helped coach the Chinese National Team after retiring as an athlete in 1996.
He also helped coach a number of medal winning athletes in international competition from both China and Australia including Yuyan Cai and Melissa Wu.
Xiangning holds an Associate Bachelor's degree from Guang Dong Physical Education and Technology College.
