Diving Scholarships
The AIS offers scholarships to both male and female divers. The current scholarship year runs for the period 1 September to 31 August. All athletes apply to the AIS on an annual basis. On the last Saturday of July each year, an advertisement in the Weekend Australian provides details of AIS Diving scholarships for the following year. The advertisement generally appears in the sports section.
The AIS Head Coach in conjunction with the Diving Australia High Performance Manager chooses successful applicants. Selection is generally based on recent national and international results, potential for development and overall commitment to excellence. As a general rule, applicants would normally be competing at a national-championship standard at either a junior and/or senior level.
AIS athletes are provided with international-standard coaching, access to world-class training facilities and equipment, sports science and sports medicine support, performance-analysis feedback, career and education advice, funding for domestic and international travel, competition and training uniforms, an allowance for accommodation and meals, and reimbursement of some educational expenses. All athletes are supported and encouraged to study and/or work in addition to their training and competition program.
