Football - Men AIS Football Homestay
Host a future Socceroo! Canberra families wanted for AIS Football Homestay program.
Be a part of the development of Australia’s elite junior footballers by becoming a host family.
Football Federation Australia and the AIS are seeking Canberra families to host AIS Football program players, aged 15 to 17 years in 2013.
Program structure:
- Australia’s elite footballers are placed with local ‘host’ families
- Athletes gain life experiences to complement their AIS sporting experience
- Families are encouraged to be part of the AIS Football community
- Families will receive remuneration to meet the associated living costs of the players
- Players attend local school (UCSSC Lake Ginninderra College) and train at the AIS
- Players compete in the National Youth League
In 2012, the AIS Men’s Football program successfully transitioned to a Homestay model. The program has evolved, and continues to develop to provide the best possible support to scholarship players.
Players and host families have shared in football and family experiences that have seen host families become a home away from home, providing the highest degree of support and care for players. Open lines of communication between Host Families and player’s parents has created close and trusting relationships that provide regular updates and feedback to parents living interstate.
“Our initial thinking on joining the AIS Homestay program was simply to make use of our two spare bedrooms. What we got were two delightful young men, who have become a fantastic addition to our family. The AIS provide terrific support as well. If your circumstances are right – I would thoroughly recommend getting on board. You won’t regret it.” (2012 host family)
Families that would be suited to the AIS Football Homestay Program are those with:
- a connection with Football (playing, coaching or spectating)
- children of a similar age and interests
- younger children that the players can be positive role models for
- a strong passion for sport.
