Sally grew up in country NSW, attending Wagga Wagga High School before moving away from her family to Sydney. She continued her schooling at the Hills Sports High School and gained a scholarship at the NSW Institute of Sport. She was captain of the Young Matildas team and at the age of 16 she represented the Australian Women's Football team (Matildas) at the Athens 2004 Olympic Games.
School and football were her priorities for years, exams were completed several times whilst on tours. Having taken 2009 off football, her passion was re-discovered whilst travelling through Europe. She was a part of the 2010 Asian Cup campaign which saw the Matildas go on to win the tournament and qualify for the FIFA World Cup next year in Germany.
