AIS scholarship holders have made up a large proportion of national teams to have taken out major events since 1986, including:

Some of the year-by-year highlights include:
1995
- The men's hockey team qualified for the Atlanta Olympics when they defeated New Zealand 2-0. The women's team won the 4 Nations Atlanta Challenge, while the men's team were narrowly defeated in a penalty shootout. They were later declared winners after a member of the German team tested positive to a drug test. The men's team won the 6 nations tournament in Cagliari, Italy. The women's team won the Champions Trophy for a record third time in Mar del Plata, Argentina.
1994
- Australia won the World Cup of women's hockey in July 1994 and was third in the men's World Cup in November. The majority of players in both teams were on AIS scholarships.
1993
- Both Australian Men's and Women's teams won the Champion's Trophy Tournament in 1993. In the Men's team eight of the players in this Australian team were current AIS Scholarship holders and in the Women's team seven players were current AIS Scholarship holders. In the 1993 Junior World Cup competing in Terrassa in Spain the Australian Under 21 Women's team won the Silver medal and the Australian Under 21 Men's team the Bronze. All athletes were AIS scholarship holders.
1991/92
- All members of the Australian Team preparing for the Barcelona Olympics were associated with the AIS hockey unit, and a lot of the Pre-Barcelona training was done at the AIS in Perth. The Australian Men's hockey team won a Silver medal at the Barcelona Olympics in 1992
1990/91
- Teams toured overseas and gained valuable experience especially in tournaments with the Korean National Teams.
1989/90
- The Hockey World Cup was held in Sydney in 1990 and the Australian Women's team won the Silver medal. The Australian Men's team won a Bronze medal in the World Cup in Lahore in Pakistan.
1988/89
- The Australian Women's Hockey Team won the Gold medal at the 1988 Seoul Olympic Games. 14 of the 16 team members were AIS scholarship holders.
1987/1988
- The Australian Women's team, in which there were eight AIS players, won a Three Nation Tournament with South Korea and the United States. In March 1988, Australia hosted the Esanda Bicentennial Tournament in Perth and the Australian Women's team winning the tournament. Twenty three of the twenty four players in this team had been associated with the AIS Hockey program.
1986/87
- Eight former AIS players were in the team which won the World Cup. Ten AIS players represented Australia in the team which contested the Champion's Trophy and won the Bronze medal. Eleven AIS female players were team members of the team that contested the inaugural BMW Champion's Trophy. From this beginning, the team improved it's rankings until it qualified for the 1988 Olympic Games.
1985/86
- The men's squad had a very successful tour of West Germany and Holland. AIS players were well represented in men's Australian Teams which played internationally. The women's squad also toured internationally, winning the majority of their games.
1984/85
- Three AIS athletes were selected to represent Australia in the Australian Olympic Hockey Team, and seven AIS athletes were in the Australian Team which won the Champion's Trophy in Karachi. AIS athletes were also well represented on other Australian teams.
