Ockenden is the 'young gun' of the Kookaburras team and despite his age, he has had no difficulty adjusting to international hockey since debuting in 2006.  He was named best young player at the 2007 and 2008 Champions Trophy tournaments and is capable of playing as a striker or in the midfield.  He showed no signs of stage fright at the recent 2008 Beijing Olympics, single handingly dominating the Netherlands in the bronze medal match to secure victory for the Kookaburras.
