Rugby Union - Scholarships

The Australian Rugby Union and Provincial Super 14 Unions have specific talent identification networks and development programs used to unearth talent for the highest levels of the game. These systems are used to track players into AIS/Australian U19 selection potential.

Train on squads of 80-100 players are listed in October of the previous year with training days and testing providing information for national selectors to finalise a squad of 45 players for the first national selection camp held at the AIS in January. Further national selection camps at the AIS are held in February and early March before the selectors finalise a squad of 26 players for the World Championships and AIS Scholarship.

The selection panel includes Wallabies Selector and Talent ID Coordinator and former dual international, Michael O’Connor. The inclusion of O’Connor on the AIS/Australia U19 selection panel creates a unique and fantastic situation not replicated anywhere else in the world of Rugby.
