Squash Achievements
Even in the first year of the AIS Squash program between 1985 and 1986, scholarship holderswere making their mark internationally. In that year, five members of the men's squad won the 1986 World Junior Teams Championship and Rodney Eyles was runner-up in the individual event. Since then, scholarship holders have continued to impress with the AIS squash program contributing to Australia’s outstanding record in World Squash. The AIS Squash program has helped develop multiple World Champions in both Single, Doubles and Teams as well as contributing to Australia’s outstanding performances in the Commonwealth Games.

- Rodney Martin: - 1991 World Champion beating Jahangir Khan in the final. Member of World Team Champions 1989.
- Michelle Martin Won the British Open 6 times from 1993 to 1998. Won the Women's World Open 3 Times, 1993, 1994, 1995. Won 2 gold medals at the 1998 Commonwealth Games. World Number 1 ranked player. Member of World Team Champions 1992,1994,1996,1998
- Sarah Fitz-Gerald – Won the Women’s World Open 5 Times, 1996, 1997,1998,2001,2002. Won the British Open twice, 2001, 2002. Gold Medalist Commonwealth Games 2002. World Number 1 ranked player. Member of World Team Champions 1992, 1994,1996,1998,2002.
- Rodney Eyles: - 1997 World Champion beating Peter Nicol in the final. Silver Medalist Commonwealth Games 1998. Member of World Team Champions 1991.
- David Palmer: - 2002 World Champion. Won the British Open 3 times, 2002, 2003, and 2004. Member of World Team Champions 2001, 2003. Silver Medalist Commonwealth Games 2006.
- Carol Owens: - Won the World Open Twice, 2000 and 2003. Member of World Team Champions 1994, 1998. Gold Medalist Commonwealth Games 2002. World Number 1 ranked player.
- Natalie Grinham : - Won 3 Gold Medals at the Commonwealth Games 2006 including a clean sweep of Women’s Singles, Women’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles. Member of World Team Champions 2002, 2004.
- Rachael Grinham : - Won the British Open twice in 2003 and 2004. World Number 1 ranked player. Gold Medalist 2006 Commonwealth Games. Member of World Team Champions 2002, 2004.
- John White: - World Number 1 ranked player.
- Joseph Kneipp: - Won a Gold Medal at the 2006 Commonwealth Games. Member of World Team Champions 2003.
- Craig Rowland: - Won a Gold Medal at the 1998 Commonwealth Games

2006:
- The 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne were an outstanding success for the AIS Squash program. The AIS contributed 9 out of the 10 team members who were current or former scholarship holders. They contributed to a record medal haul for Australia of 3 Gold, 3 Silver and 2 Bronze Medals, the most ever won by a single country. Former scholarship holder Natalie Grinham won 3 Gold Medals from 3 events while her sister Rachael won a Gold Medal in the Women’s Doubles. Current scholarship holder Joseph Kneipp won a Gold Medal in the mixed doubles, while Anthony Ricketts and Stewart Boswell won Silver Medals. Former scholarship holder David Palmer won a Silver medal in the men’s Singles.
- Stewart Boswell and Anthony Ricketts won the World Men’s Doubles Championships in Melbourne.
- Joseph Kneipp won the World Mixed Doubles Championship with former scholarship holder Rachael Grinham.

2005:
- Anthony Ricketts, Winner, Tournament of Champions, his first Super Series Final and followed that with a number of good performances throughout the year including runner up in the St Louis Open and semi finalist in the Pakistan Open. Anthony also achieved a career highlight later in the year winning the British Open Squash Championships, one of the most prestigious titles in the world.
- Geoff Hunt was presented with an award for 20 years working at the AIS by the Director Peter Fricker
- Current and former AIS scholarship holders Stewart Boswell, Anthony Ricketts, Joseph Kneipp and Cameron Pilley finished 5th in the World Teams Championships in Pakistan.
- Cameron Pilley won the Manitoba Open, a One Star Event.
- Kasey Brown won the Western Australia Open and was a quarter finalist in the Marsh McLennan Open, a Semi Finalist in the Liberty Bell Open; and a Semi Finalist in the Dayton Open.
- Scott Arnold was a finalist in the Waikato PSA Open, New Zealand and won the Australian Junior Championships in Ballarat.
- Donna Urquhart won the Australian Junior Championship in Ballarat.
- Stewart Boswell won 8 consecutive PSA events to consolidate his ranking in the top 20 in the world after 2 years out with a back injury.
2004:
- Australia won the World Womens Team Championships including current or former AIS scholarship holders Rachael Grinham, Natalie Grinham, Amelia Pittock and Melissa Martin.

- Australia beat France in the Final of the World Men’s Team Championships to win the title for a record 8 th time. Current and former AIS scholarship holders Anthony Ricketts, Paul Price, Joseph Kneipp and David Palmer made up the winning team.
- Natalie Grinham lost to former AIS scholarship holder Sarah Fitz-Gerald in Final of the Australian Open
- Dan Jenson beat Paul Price in final of the Australia Open
- Anthony Ricketts lost to David Palmer in the semi-final of the US Open
- Australia lost to Egypt 3-0 in the Final of the World Junior Womens Team Championships team included AIS scholarship holder Kasey Brown.
- Anthony Ricketts lost to David Palmer in the semi-final of the British Open.
- Natalie Grinham beat Vanessa Atkinson in the final of the Dutch Open
- Anthony Ricketts lost to Amr Shabana in the quarter finals of the World Men’s Open
- Natalie Grinham lost to Carol Owens in the quarter finals of the World Womens Open
2002
- Stewart Boswell & Anthony Ricketts won silver in the Men's doubles at the 2002 Commonwealth Games. Stewart also won a bronze in the singles, as did Natalie Grinham in the Women's doubles.
- Most scholarship holders reached career high individual rankings in 12 months from July 2002. Reaching the top 10 by April 2003 were Stewart Boswell at 4, Anthony Ricketts at 7 and Natalie Grinham at 9.
- Cameron Pilley won 3 PSA satellite events in 2002 - South Island & Canterbury Opens in NZ and Western Australian Open in Perth.
- Dan Jenson won CAS International in Pakistan beating former world number 1 in his hometown of Peshawar.
- Stewart Boswell won the 2003 Catella Swedish Open.
- Anthony Ricketts won the 2003 EBS Dayton Open.
- Natalie Grinham won the 2003 Marsh McLennan and Southport Opens. She also made the semis of the 2003 Texas Open beating her older and higher ranked sister Rachael.
2000/2001
- Stewart Boswell made the semi final of the Hong Kong Open beating 3 players in the top 20 including number 3 in the world. He made last 16 of British Open and made top 16 rankings for the first time.
- Natalie Grinham represented Australia at the World Teams Championships where they finished 2nd. She broke into the world top 20 for the first time and was runner up in Kuala Lumpur Open.
- Anthony Ricketts made it to the semi final of the Hong Kong Open beating 3 top 20 players including the world number 4. He won the Australian Open and beat the world number 7 in the Flanders Open.
- Paul Price was runner up in the British Open and the Flanders Open. He made the semi finals of the Tournament of Champions.
- John Williams won the Grasshopper Cup and was runner up in the Malaysian Open. He reached top 20 in the world rankings for the first time.
1999/2000
- Michelle Martin in 1999 won 7 out of 9 WISPA events and was runner up in the other two. She also won the 7th Australian Open and ranked world number one.
- Craig Rowland was runner up in Puebla and Mexican Opens. Made last 16 in the World Open.
- Melissa Vacca in 1999 improved 11 places in world rankings.
- Anthony Ricketts improved 30 places in world rankings in 1999 and won the Australian 23YAC championships.
- Byron Davis got to the semi final of the Greenwich Open.
- Natalie Grinham was a semi finalist of the WISPA International Challenge beating world ranked number 5. She was the runner up in the Indian Open.
1998/99
- Michelle Martin won 2 gold medals at the Commonwealth Games.
- Craig Rowland partnered Michelle to win the mixed doubles gold at the Commonwealth Games.
- Byron Davis won silver in the men's double at Commonwealth Games.
- Stewart Boswell won 3 tournaments on the South American circuit. He won Citla Di Bolzauo, won 1st round of prestigious Tournament of Champions.
- Anthony Ricketts won YTL open, senior of Mesa Italian Open.
- Melissa Vacca made series of Milo open.
- Michelle Martin won 17 tournaments in 12 months of 1998 and was ranked world number one.
- Dan Jenson made quarters of Pakistan and US Opens.
- Liam Kenny won satellite event Moorabbin Open.
1997/98
- Narelle Tippett reached the semi finals of the Interlink Open, Windsor, England
- Dan Jenson reached the quarter finals of the Austrian Open
- Michelle Martin won the WISPA World Grand Prix Finals, played in Hurghada, Egypt. Liz Irving reached the semi finals.
- Michelle Martin won her sixth British Open title in Birmingham, England, defeating Sarah FitzGerald.
- Dan Jenson (Joint AIS/SASI) reacher the semi finals of the British Open - his best result for this prestigious tournament.
- Michelle Martin was the runner-up in the Citroen Classic, Parsdorf, Germany
- Stewart Boswell reached the semi finals of the Pakistan Circuit events 1 and 2 in Lahore and Peshawar respectively.
- Narelle Tippett reached the quarter finals of the GVAC Las Vegas Open, USA.
- Kym Keevil reached the quarter finals of the Squash Inn Classic, Mexico City
1996/97
- Kate Major won the Swiss and Austrian Open's. Nine AIS players entered the British Open - four making it into lst round.
- Liam Kenny won the North Shore Open in New Zealand, David Palmer won Victorian Open, Narelle Tippett and Stewart Boswell won the ACT Open.
- Christina McIver, Kelly Townsend and Laura Keating were selected in the Australian Junior Team to compete at the World Junior Championships in Brazil. Christina reached last 16 and Laura last 8.
- Natalie Grinham won the Tasmanian Open, Matthew Jenson was runner up in mens event. David Palmer won three tournaments in Ecuador, Chile and Rio de Janiero and runner- up in Columbia.
- Stewart Boswell was runner-up on Chile and Rio de Janerio.
- Stewart Boswell won the Australian U 19 Men's title, Anthony Ricketts was runner-up.
- Natalie Grinham won the Australian U 19 Women's title, Laura Keating was runner-up.
- Shane Doherty won the Australian U l7 Men's title Stewart Boswell won the Moorrabbin Open.
- Kym Keevil/Heidi Mather were runners-up at the Australian Doubles Championships.
- David Palmer won the Philadelphia Open. Former Scholarship holder Rodney Eyles won the World Open for the first time.
1995/96
- Stewart Boswell finished as runner-up in the World Junior Men's Championships in Egypt in July 1996.
- Stewart was the first Australian player since 1988 to reach the final of this event. Other members of the team included Liam Kenny, Paul Peters and Anthony Ricketts.
1994-95
- Rachael Grinham, Narelle Tippett and twins, Kate and Emma Major won the World Junior Women's Teams Championships in Sydney.
- Rachael Grinham was runner-up in the World Junior Women's Individual Championship Title and won the NSW and ACT Junior Championships.
- Anthony Ricketts, in his first year on scholarship, won the NSW U/17, ACT and QLD Junior Championships and was runner-up in the Australian U/17 Championships.
1993-94
- AIS players, Danny Woolbank and Paul Price, represented Australia at the World Junior Men's Championships held in New Zealand.
- John White reached the final of the Santa Barbara Open (satellite event).
1992-93
- Rachael Grinham won the Oceania and the World Junior Women's Championships. Rachael.
- Kym Keevil, Natarsha Tippett and Janelle Loader won the World Junior Women's Team Championship.
1991-92
- Rodney Martin won the World Squash Championships the first Australian to do so since coach Geoff Hunt won in 1981.
- Michelle Martin lifted her world ranking to number three by winning the Australian Open.
- The Australian Team for the World Women's Junior Championships finished a close second in the team event behind the defending champions, England.
1990-91
- Rodney Martin won the Australian Open, beating Jansher Khan in the final.
- Michelle Martin won the British U/23 championships and narrowly lost to the World Champion in the Australian Open.
1989-90
- Danielle Drady progressed to number three in the world, winning the Canadian Open.
- Rodney Martin beat world champion Jansher Khan in the final of the World Teams Championship.
1988-89
- Rodney Martin retained his ranking of fourth, and Michelle Martin, Danielle Drady and Sarah Fitzgerald progressed to sixth, seventh and tenth respectively in the world open rankings.
1987-88
- Rodney Martin reached the ranking of fourth in the World.
- Sarah Fitzgerald won the World Junior Championship.
1986-87
- Rodney Martin won the Victorian Open, South Australian Open, Australian Open, the British Under 23 Championship, and the Hong Kong Open.
- Rodney Eyles won the South Australian and Australian Junior titles and was runnerup in the Australian Open Junior titles.
- Danielle Drady won the 1989 Australian Junior Championship.
1985-86
- Scholarship holder Rodney Martin beat coach Geoff Hunt in the final of the Australian Open. Rodney also won the British Under 23 title.
- Sarah Fitzgerald, Michelle Martin and Danielle Drady won the 1985 World Junior teams Championship in Ireland, and Fitzgerald was runnerup in the individual competition.
- Five members of the men's squad won the 1986 World Junior Teams Championship, and Rodney Eyles was runnerup in the individual event.
