Squash Injury blow for rising star Cuskelly

Rising squash star Ryan Cuskelly has suffered a major injury blow just weeks ahead of the final training camp for Australia’s Commonwealth Games squad.

Cuskelly fell and badly hurt his ankle during a qualifying match against fellow countryman Scott Arnold at the Montreal International in Canada this week.

He got up and tried to continue but suffered another fall soon after and could not continue.

Cuskelly has had to withdraw from next week’s Canary Wharf Classic in London and will return to Brisbane on Monday to be assessed by Australian Institute of Sport medical staff.

"He hasn’t broken it but I believe there is severe ligament damage," Australia’s head squash coach for the Commonwealth Games Byron Davis said.

"We will have to wait and see how long he is out for, but it has come at a terrible time as far as Ryan is concerned."

The injury happened on the same day that Cuskelly, 22, found out he had cracked the world’s top 50 for the first time.
