Swimming Scholarships

Applications for Swimming scholarships must be made on a standard application form available from the Swimming program. A swimmer’s home coach must sign the application form as acknowledgement that the application has been discussed with the swimmer. The basis of selection is 870 FINA point score and a minimum age of 16 years (unless otherwise agreed to by the AIS Technical Director, AIS Director and Australian Swimming Head Coach), with a particular focus on athletes from regional Australia. In general, athletes entering the AIS program should have completed the equivalent of Year 10 schooling.

The annual advertisement/application process also allows athletes to indicate an interest in attending the AIS. The scholarship year is largely linked to the academic year, but scholarships can be offered at any time.

AIS athletes are provided with coaching, access to facilities, equipment, sports science and sports medicine, travel, personal and career development, accommodation, food and some educational expenses. All athletes are encouraged and supported to study or work as well as to train and compete.

New scholarship athletes are given a one month trial with full access to AIS support services.
