The AIS triathlon scholarship period currently runs from the beginning of January until the end December a full 12-month period.

Triathletes who are racing Olympic-distance events may apply for an AIS scholarship. The TA/AIS National Performance Director, in consultation with the AIS Senior Coach, make recommendations for AIS scholarships to Triathlon Australia for endorsement and finally to the AIS Director.

Athletes are chosen from their results in national and international events, and on their potential to win and work together for Australian international success.

Scholarship holders receive extensive benefits including domestic and international camps, travel and accommodation to approved national selection races and World Championship Series events, a Northern American and European camp, as well access to sports science and sports medicine that are individually tailored to their needs.

As the AIS triathlon program now supports the elite triathlete whose focus is World Championship Series, World Cup and Olympic Games competition – the scholarship period now assimilates with the triathletes’ preparatory training and domestic competition phase and the major competition phase; being ITU World Championship Series and ITU World Cup series culminating in the ITU World Championship Series Final.

Question: When will there be another opportunity for athletes to gain selection in the AIS squad?

Answer: The next intake will be in January, 2010.

Offers will be made before 10th December 2009.

The 2010 selection criteria will be posted on the web site in October 2009. In addition, the 'Code of Personal Management and Expected Team Standards' for the AIS Triathlon Program is online.
