AIS Junior Men

2006 Australian Volleyball League (AVL Results)

AIS win 2006 AVL Men's Gold Medal match against the Melbourne Falcons in a great match. Final result - 3:0 (25-19, 28-26, 25-17). This was the second year in a row that the AIS Team has won the League.

Great Britain (2-7 Aug 06)

• Match 1 - 4 Aug 06   AUS d GB 3:0 (25-22, 25-23, 25-15)
• Match 2 - 5 Aug 06   AUS d GB 3:0 (25-17, 25-14, 25-16) 
• The team played better and dominated all areas
• Match 3 - 6 Aug 06   AUS d GB 3:0 (25-20, 25-16, 25-9) 
• The team had a great game and series, not dropping a set throughout the three matches.

The Australian team won the series against Great Britain 3-0. The team then moved onto to Varese, Italy for a training camp and then to Tunisia & Canada.

Tunisia (9-18 Aug 06)

• Match 1 - 11 Aug 06 AUS d TUN 3:1 (15-25, 25-16, 25-20, 25-21) Australia beat Tunisia at home for the first time ever
• Match 2 - 13 Aug 06 TUN d AUS 3:0 (25-23, 25-17, 25-24)

Tunisia won the series 3-2 however the Australians did extremely well, coming back to nearly take the 4th match and then dominating in the final match of the series.

Iran Series - Volleyball Team Australia v Iran Men’s Volleyball Team

• Match 1 - 19-6-06 Result: Australia defeated Iran 3 – 2 (23-25, 25-23, 19-25, 25-23, 15-12)  
  • The Australian Men's Volleyball Team defeated the Iran National Team in Iran, for the first time in the history of competition between the two countries. It is also Australia's first win over them since 1993.

• ACT State League - Grand Final - AIS defeated Australian National University 3/0 25-17, 25-16, 25-18

  The AIS Team played very strongly to defeat a gallant ANU Team in the Grand Final of the ACT State League in July. After the match, AIS Head Coach, Russell Borgeaud, addressed the players, praising them for their improvement during the season and the manner in which they played in the Grand Final. The Team remained undefeated during the 16 week season. In the early rounds they struggled against a number of the local senior teams, but by the end of the season they were proving to be difficult opponents for all of the other teams in the competition.
