Winter sports Kneller tops ski cross ANC standings

09 Sep 2009

Olympic Winter Institute (OWI) athlete Scott Kneller has taken out the ANC ski cross men's title after the third and final event of the season in Cardrona, New Zealand, was cancelled due to inclement weather.

The 20-year-old Jindabyne skier won the opening round of the series, held in Mt Hotham earlier in the month, defeating skiers from the Japanese and Swedish World Cup teams.

In the second event, also held at Mt Hotham, Kneller led the qualifying, then took the gold when bad weather forced the abandonment of the final.

Katya Crema ended up in fifth position overall in the women’s events, while Jenny Owens did not post a result after missing the two Mt Hotham races due to illness.

The OWI/AIS ski cross team is continuing to train in Cardrona and neighbouring Snow Park, working on jumping and starts (weather permitting).
