Winter sports Snow and ice awards a huge success

With the encouragement and assistance of the Olympic Winter Institute (OWI), Australia’s four national ice sports organisations held the inaugural Ice Sport Awards in Sydney at the end of April.

The evening was a major success, with the Australian Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation, the Australian Curling Federation, Australian Ice Racing, and Ice Skating Australia all announcing their respective Athlete of the Year, Coach of the Year, Junior Athlete of the Year and Outstanding Achievement awards

AIS athlete Tatiana Borodulina was named the AIR Athlete of the Year, Emma Lincoln-Smith collected the ABSA Athlete of the Year Award, and the OWI’s youngest scholarship holder, Cheltzie Lee, won the Ice Skating Australia Athlete of the Year Award.

The Ski and Snowboard Australia annual awards were also held at the end of April, with AIS athletes again strongly represented.

Lydia Lassila took out the top honour, the SSA Athlete of the Year Award, Jono Brauer was named Alpine Athlete of the Year, Nathan Johnstone selected as Junior Athlete of the Year and Jacqui Cooper collected the Outstanding Achievement Award.

AIS/OWI Head Snowboard Coach Ben Wordsworth was named the Coach of the Year.
