Athlete Counselling Service

The Athlete Counselling Service provides innovative psychological services and programs aimed at enhancing the mental health and wellbeing of AIS athletes.

AIS athletes have access to counselling services and programs designed to support athlete mental health and assist in the development of skills to cope with the complex psychological demands associated with high performance sport. 

The services provided for athleles include:

  • Individual counselling services
  • Early intervention initiatives to promote psychological wellbeing
  • Programs designed to assist in the development of skills to cope with the complex psychological demands associated with the elite sport environment
  • Secondary consultation on issues related to mental health and athlete welfare

A collaborative research initiative has been established with the Centre for Mental Health Research at the Australian National University, to seek to improve mental health literacy and assist in tailoring the delivery of online mental health information to the elite sports environment.
