AIS Hall of Residences
The forefront of elite training and competition
The AIS Halls of Residence is home to over 140 AIS scholarship holders. This state-of-the-art facility includes the AIS Dining Hall, where groups can dine along side AIS athletes.
The AIS Halls of Residence was opened in June 2007 and contributes to preparing Australia’s next generation of champions for international, Paralympic and Olympic success. The Residences are an integral part of the 2006-07 $74 million AIS redevelopment project to provide Australia’s elite athletes with access to world-class training facilities.
The three-storey residences accommodate supervisors and 144 live-in scholarship holders in self-contained units of four to six bedrooms. Each unit consists of shared kitchenette, bathroom and laundry facilities and common recreation space for rest and recovery.
Other highlights include a new dining hall, which caters for the specific dietary requirements of about 200 elite athletes and a study room dedicated to their education and welfare needs.
Core living units are linked by secure interconnecting walkways for easy access to the communal dining and study halls and recreation areas.
The Residences are also designed to be energy efficient with a five-star rating which recognises its solar efficient design, double-glazed windows, hydro in-slab heating and cooling, and rainwater collection and storage tanks for toilets and irrigation.
The original AIS athlete residences (now called the Australian Sports Commission Residences), which opened in 1985, will continue to accommodate the needs of visiting athletes, teams and sports camps.
