AIS Residences
Live amongst elite athletes in the AIS residence

The forefront of elite training and competition facilities

The Australian Sports Commission (ASC) Residences is the ‘home away from home’ for many elite athletes as they visit and experience the AIS.

With accommodation for up to 250 guests, the ASC Residences is perfect for any sporting group during their stay at the AIS and is an ideal corporate boot-camp setting.

The ASC Residence consists of three or four-storey split-level units, set among landscaped gardens at the AIS Canberra campus. There are 250 rooms in 21 blocks. Each block has a shared communal living room and bathroom facilities.

Bedrooms include a single bed (with extra-long beds for tall athletes), refrigerator, desk, sink and access for cable television and the internet. There are also 21 one-bedroom flats for married athletes and visitors.

Visitors can stay at the ASC Residence when there are vacancies. The complex also boasts a recreation hut, laundry, hairdressing salon and allocated parking.

History of the ASC Residences

The ASC Residences was originally called the “AIS Athletes' Residence” and was opened by the Prime Minister, the Hon Bob Hawke, on 29 October 1985. Prior to the opening of these residences, AIS athletes boarded at university accommodation throughout Canberra. The residence was designed by Allen Jack & Cottier Architects.
