The forefront of elite training and competition facilities

The Gymnastics Training Hall was opened on 1 March 1983 by the Prime Minister, the Hon Malcolm Fraser. The hall, designed by Phillip Cox & Partners, has facilities for all gymnastics apparatus - floor, vault, beam, uneven bars, pommel horse, rings, horizontal bars and parallel bars.

Both male and female gymnasts train in the Gymnastics Hall. AIS gymnasts typically train six hours a day, 11 times a week. Female gymnasts compete on four apparatus, while males compete on six. The Gymnastics Hall includes a 30-metre x 2-metre concrete pit filled with foam rubber, which is used for training.

Recent advances to the facilities include the addition of plasma screen televisions attached to video cameras which can be focused on different apparatus and areas of the gym. This allows athletes to complete a routine and later watch the routine with their coach to correct and modify their technique.
