ACT Water Safety Awards
The ACT branch of the Royal Life Saving Society hosted the ACT Water Safety Awards at the Legislative Assembly on 25 November 2009. Swim School at the AIS was one of the big winners: it was named ACT AUSTSWIM Swim School of the Year and swim school teacher Kate Lowe received the ACT AUSTSWIM Teacher of Infant and Preschool Aquatics award.
Kate and Swim School at the AIS receive automatic entries into the 2010 AUSTSWIM National Awards, which take place as part of the AUSTSWIM National Aquatic Education Conference, 3–4 July 2010 at Radisson Resort on the Gold Coast.
New swimming level
To accommodate the increase of swimmers in our Penguins level we have decided to split the level into two – the additional level being identified as Seals. The main skill focus for both levels are:
- Seals: basic backstroke and freestyle without breathing
- Penguins: basic backstroke and freestyle with uni lateral breathing

Reminders to customers
Public swimming
Swimming lesson fees only cover the lessons your child has been registered into. This fee does not include the use of the pool during or outside of lessons. If you wish to swim whilst lessons are operating or immediately after lessons then you are required to pay the cost of a public swim at reception prior to using the pools. Please note that with the exception of Sunday, there is no free/public swimming permitted at anytime during swimming lessons as the pool is reserved for the Swim School.
Bookings and payments
To avoid disappointment please ensure you take note of the payment due date.
Waitlists
If you no longer require a waitlist please contact reception to have it cancelled.
Contact details
We have a number of customers with incomplete or out-of-date contact details, particularly telephone numbers. This makes it extremely difficult for us to contact parents about changes regarding your child’s swimming lessons, such as if they are on waitlists. Please contact reception on (02) 6214 1281 to ensure your details are up to date.
Supervisors
The deck supervisor should be your first point of contact for any questions regarding your child’s swimming lessons: they have the skills and knowledge to assist you and are always happy to help.
Any child aged 12 years or under must, at all times, be accompanied by an adult while on Australian Sports Commission and Australian Institute of Sport sites.
