Recovery

At Swim and Fitness at the AIS, we understand how important it is to have recovery and enhanced care programs tailored to individual needs.

Recovery program

Recovering from operations, accident trauma or learning to live with limited mobility is always challenging. Participating in a recognised recovery program is an important step in your recovery.

At Swim and Fitness at the AIS, we understand that your recovery program needs to be customised to your individual needs so that you can progress to more advanced fitness programs and improve your quality of life.

To ensure that you receive the attention you deserve, all of our recovery sessions run for 45 minutes and have a maximum of 12 participants for aqua sessions and eight participants for land-based sessions.

Recovery sessions include:

  • Aqua recovery — this session is a great starting place for all participants to gain increased mobility and strength using the water and aqua equipment
for resistance. Aqua recovery is conducted in our 1.1-metre deep, 25-metre long heated pool.
  • Deep-water recovery — a more intensive recovery session, deep-water recovery is conducted in our 2.2-metre deep, 50-metre long heated pool. Participants use floatation belts and other equipment to further increase mobility, strength and cardiovascular ability.
  • Gym recovery — this land-based recovery session allows participants to work on their customised gym program under supervision.
  • Pilates recovery — this is a mat-based Pilates session that is targeted at less-mobile participants and focuses on core strength, balance and flexibility.

Enhanced Care program

At the home of Australian sport, we pride ourselves on developing individual programs to help anyone achieve their personal health goals. Our enhanced
care programs are designed for those who are looking for one-on-one consultations in the areas of nutrition, exercise and cardiac rehabilitation.

Swim and Fitness at the AIS accredited exercise physiologists provide exercises as a treatment strategy in physical rehabilitation, as a strategy for disease prevention, and as part of establishing and sustaining functional independence.

Our accredited dietitians have the skills and training necessary to provide food and nutrition advice to meet individual health and lifestyle needs, and they
specialise in diabetes, gastrointestinal disorders, sports nutrition and more.

Enhanced care sessions include:

  • Nutrition — individual consultations are available with an accredited practising dietitian for clinical and sports-related nutritional advice.
  • Exercise rehabilitation — individual consultations are available with an accredited exercise physiologist for musculoskeletal and cardiopulmonary rehabilitation programs.
  • Cardiac rehabilitation — this small-group exercise session is aimed at developing cardiovascular fitness, strength and confidence following a cardiac event. A referral is required from the treating physician.

Enhanced Primary Care patients are welcome with a referral for exercise physiology or dietetics.
