Paralympic sprinter Heath Francis and kayaker Ken Wallace shared the top award as Australian Institute of Sport Athlete of the Year.

Francis was Australia’s Usain Bolt at the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games, claiming three gold medals and setting two new world records. He set an awe-inspiring personal best time in the 100 metres of 11.05 seconds.

Wallace became the first Australian to win a medal in both kayak events at a single Olympic Games. He stormed home to gold medal victory in the K1 500m sprint and secured a bronze medal in the K1 1000m.
