10 August 2005 St Joseph’s After School Care Kids Get ActiveThe member for Hinkler, Mr Paul Neville, will visit primary school children participating in the Australian Sports Commission's (ASC) new Active After-school Communities program (AASC) at St Joseph’s After School Care Service today at 3:30 pm. “The program engages schools, local community organisations and sporting clubs to bring together children in fun and safe structured physical activities,” Mr Neville said. Ms Judy Flanagan, ASC National Junior Sport Manager, said the efforts of schools and OSHCS and the support of local communities for the initiative has been fantastic to see. ‘Everyone involved in assisting to get the AASC program up and running in such a short timeframe is to be highly commended for their efforts’, Ms Flanagan said. ‘It is extremely exciting to see the program evolve and to read about some great initiatives the program has been able to establish so quickly across very diverse communities’. For those schools and OSHCS who are not yet involved in the program who would like to register their interest for 2006, Expression of Interest forms are available on the AASC website (www.ausport.gov.au/aasc/schools/). These forms must be submitted by 29 August 2005. For more information contact Duncan Aldred, Active After-school Communities Regional Coordinator, Australian Sports Commission, 0427 700 931
