The AIS has a long tradition of contributing to Australia’s success at the Olympics since the Institute’s foundation in 1981.

From 3 silver medals and 2 bronze medals in Los Angeles in 1984, the AIS has steadily increased its contribution to the medal tally with current and former AIS athletes being awarded 10 gold, 10 silver and 12 bronze in Athens in 2005.

If the AIS had competed by itself in Athens, the AIS would have come ninth in the medal tally – ahead of countries like South Korea, Great Britain, Greece and Brazil.
