AIS swimmers honoured by national awards
AIS scholarship holders have been named among major winners at the Telstra Swimmer of the Year Awards.
Congratulations to AIS swimmers Patrick Murphy, Brenton Rickard, Tarnee White and Matt Cowdrey who were named in the Telstra International All Star team, based on top performances and rankings.
Felicity Galvez was named Speedo Short Course Swimmer of the Year, recognised for her gold medal and world record breaking swim at this year’s FINA World Short Course Championship in Manchester.
Former AIS scholarship holders Linda MacKenzie and Justin Norris were honoured by the Speedo award for Services to the Australian Swimming Team.
Paralympian Matthew Cowdrey was named Telstra Swimmer of the Year with a Disability for the third time. He also took out the Australian Unity Club Leadership Award for his services to the Norwood Club in South Australia.
Swimming Australia’s Golden Moment of the Year Award went to the magnificent gold medal performance by the Australian women’s 4 x 200-metre relay team of Stephanie Rice, Bronte Barratt, Kylie Palmer and Linda MacKenzie at the Beijing 2008 Olympics.
