Aussies line up for ITU 'Kitzbuhel' World Cup
The ITU Triathlon World Cup Series heads to Kitzbuhel, Austria this weekend with top Aussie contenders, Erin Densham and Felicity Abram to compete at the historic ski resort.
For 2008 Olympian, Erin Densham, this will be her final hit-out before she heads to the Beijing Olympics.
The 23-year-old is approaching the race as a great opportunity to stretch her legs and fine tune her last minute Olympic preparations.
Current ITU world number one, Felicity Abram will once again be eyeing the podium, aiming for her fifth consecutive world cup medal for the season, while rookie, Felicity Sheedy Ryan will be making her world cup debut.
Competition will be tough with a number of nation’s also using the event as their final Olympic hit-out, including a trio of kiwis, Andrea Hewitt (last year’s winner), Samantha Warriner and Debbie Tanner.
Also warming up for the big day in August is Sweden’s, Lisa Norden, Nicole Spring of Switzerland and home town favourite Austria’s, Eva Dollinger.
In the men’s elite it will be Jimmy Seear and Dan Wilson (QLD), along with the ACT’s, David Dellow hitting the course amongst a field of almost 70 competitors including New Zealanders Bevan Docherty and Kris Gemmell, Alistair Brownlee of the UK, Ivan Rana of Spain and Filip Ospaly of the Czech Republic.
Athletes will commence the two-750 metre laps of Lake Schwarzsee with a dive start and will exit and re-enter the lake after the first lap. Following this the competitors will embark on the 40 km, eight lap bike course with sharp bends and fast and narrow routes.
The hilly course is expected to be an exhausting challenge and riders will need to be alert throughout the tricky bike leg. The 10km run leg consists of four 2.5km laps and is set to be fast paced with a very flat and straight forward course.
