The Australian Gems have gone down to Chinese Taipei 80-73.

From the very first possession Chinese Taipei made their intentions clear with tremendous on ball pressure and denying the lane pass.

The Gems had difficulty getting into any offensive rhythm.

Chinese Taipei moved the ball extremely well creating a number of opportunities inside the key whilst connecting on their 3 point attempts to take a huge advantage at quarter time 29-14.

The Gems adjusted their defence into a zone to counter the agility of the Taipei big players who between them had 47 points for the game.

The zone slowed the Chinese Taipei offensive tempo with the Gems working back into the game.

After half time things started to happen for the Gems and they were rewarded with several defensive stops.

They also converted at the other end with fast break points and some long 3pt makes from Kate Gaze, Stephanie Cumming and Rosie Moult.

With support from the bench in Bree Farley and Georgia Minear the Gems had closed the gap to60-65 at three quarter time.

Whilst the Gems tried everything in the last period the experience of the home team was enough for them to steady and hold out their lead throughout the term to run out winners 80-73.

Kate Gaze had her best game for the tournament with 13 pts and was well supported by Kate Oliver (10pts, 6 rbs), Tess Madgen (9pts, 7rbs), Steph Cumming (12pts) and Rosie Moult (8pts, 9 rbs).
