The Australian Sports Commission (ASC) and Swimming Australia Limited (SAL) have announced that Vince Raleigh will remain in his position as Senior Coach of the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) Swim program.

The decision follows Tuesday’s meeting whereby both parties agreed to work together to resolve the ongoing issue of Raleigh’s future at the Australian Institute of Sport.

‘Both SAL CEO Kevin Neil and I met with Shannon Rollason (AIS Head Coach) and Vince Raleigh (AIS Senior Coach) with the view to obtaining the best possible outcome for the AIS Swim program,’ Acting AIS Director Phil Borgeaud said.

‘To both men’s credit they acted professionally in discussions, which primarily revolved around their views in taking the program forward.

‘I’m pleased to say that the outcome was that both have agreed to work together in the best interests of the swim program and that is great news for Australian swimming.’

SAL CEO Kevin Neil said he was delighted a resolution had been reached and that all parties could now move forward.

In further good news the ASC, SAL and the AIS have agreed to further integrate strategic and operational planning involving the AIS Director Professor Peter Fricker, ASC Director for Sports Performance and Development Greg Nance and Kevin Neil at the strategic level, as well as the Australian Head Coach Alan Thompson, AIS Head Coach Shannon Rollason and appropriate senior staff at the operational level.

The aim is to maximise resources to achieve continued success in what is Australia’s premier Olympic sport.
